Abelard and Heloise – Middle Age’s Famous Lovers

Abelard and Heloise are the Middle Ages’ most famous star-crossed lovers and letter writers. Abelard, a tutor of theology at Paris’ Notre Dame Cathedral, fell in love with his pupil Heloise. She is the niece of the hot-tempered Canon Fulbert. She bore Abelard’s child name Astrolabe who is named after an astronomical instrument for measuring time. Abelard and Heloise were secretly married.

Fulbert got angry with Abelard for soiling the family’s honor by naming his nephew  after an astronomical instrument and had Abelard castrated by his henchmen. Abelard became a monk and Heloise a nun. Despite separate cloisters, they maintained a passionate epistolary relationship and are entombed together in Paris’ Pere Lachaise Cemetery. A sculpture if Heloise embracing Abelard’s severed gonads can be found at Paris’ Conciergerie prison.

Hey everyone, it’s my first post here in my new love blog. I named it Love Love Love because it’s about anything and everything about loverelationship, friendship, marriage, sex, etc. The Dictionary of Love book by John Stark inspired me to create this blog. Actually, I really had a hard time thinking about the url or domain of this blog because almost all the titles that I thought were already taken by someone else. So I just chose http://www.february142012.wordpress.com, since it’s the same date as today and everyone are celebrating Valentine’s Day, also include that the said celebration is really about LOVE. So it’s really connected. I’m so glad that I was able to create this today. I’ll be posting more because love speaks a lot. Feel free to read, comment, share and subscribe to my blog. Happy Hearts Day everyone!!! 🙂
